I think choosing a name for a new baby has to be one of the hardest things to do.

It is such a responsibility. Choosing the wrong name or combination of names may cause some issues for when the child is growing up.

I have browsed a few websites for inspiration and listened out for names when watching TV. Just when you think you have a winner, you mention it to your other half and he screws up his nose and says ‘really’…

Second time around I am not only getting disapproval from Keith, but also from Ethan, my 5 year old son- who has his own opions about what we should call the baby (very odd names I must say, like boo boo!) I think he forgets sometimes that we are naming a child and not a pet.

Another reason why I am finding it hard to choose a name is because I taught High School for 10 years, and taught hundreds of children. Many names remind me of particular children that I have taught, making it a challenge to find a unique name that has no associations with me.

Below is a list of a few websites I have been looking through. I have found them particularly useful as these sites state name, origin and meaning (which to me is important).

Some of the names that I am considering are Nate, Carter, Connor, Cole, Byron, Blake, Kody, Ashton, Hunter and Reid.

  2. Hi Kelli,

Congratulations on expecting baby number four. How far along are you? I just love this time and even though it is my second pregnancy, there are always little surprises that make me smile.

I will have to definitely check out your site.

  3. If you go with Carter, you’re babies will have the same names as the children of the lady that runs the cloth diaper store by my house! Love it!

  4. After naming 4 kids I feel like a pro…OK not really, but I do understand your situation. I finally had to just tell my kids they were NOT allowed an opinion on the name of Baby.

I also never told anyone the names until they were born because unwanted opinions were hurtful (we learned this with #1)
I chose names based on family. #1 is an Iish name, the one heritage Hubby and I have in common. His name is Cian (Key-an) Rhys.
#2 is named after my father-in-law and brother-in-law. Coveniently it is also a family name in MY family. His name is Charles Damian but goes by Charlie.
#3 needed a name that would go well with the other 2, but I also wanted something super feminine as she was my first girl. She is named after my favorite auntie. Her name is Rylee Scarlet Elisabeth (Scarlet is the feminine name I insisted on. Elisabeth is my auntie)
#4 is another girl so I decided she needed 3 names like her sister. I used another Irish name with an ultra-feminine second name and the third is after my best friend who has passed. Her name is Delaney Aurora Louise

I thought each name through and it took the entire pregnancy to finalize each one. It was quite challenging and I felt pressured because I HATE my name. So far my kids love their names and I feel they are perfect!

I love the names you have picked so far! Good luck finding that perfect name!
